YouTube: Now with subtitles... kinda

YouTube recently released the closed caption beta for videos. This uses speech recognition to create subtitles for your videos.

My Avatar review video from back in December was been run though the speech recognition and now was subtitles, but the problem is, for the most part they don't fit with what I'm actually saying.

Most lines end up as like the one above. Which shows about the same understanding of the English language as your average 4chan user.

Like I said, it's currently in beta, so it should get better, but really, here's a thought, why not let the person who made the video write the captions? The 'tuber knows what was said so they can caption it properly.

My challenge now is to make a video where the captions match perfectly.

So the patients story is that he (or her, but I'll continue using the male term, k?) rolled his knee over his fingers. Now, I've been a gamer for about 16 years now, and I have never been in the position where it's possible for me to roll over my own hand whilst playing. I think someone is just trying to hide some overly embarrassing way that they broke their hand and blame it on something cool.

(I am SO sorry about the title)

Netgear have joined the list of computer related companies that piss me off to no avail, which really only consists of PC World and Netgear.

Anyway on Sunday my router packed up, no signal, couldn't even connect to it using cables. So after fruitlessly trying to fix it in the usual fashion (pulling the plug, pushing the reset button), I called Netgear support and was met with a plethora of accents, firstly the calm British male who asked me what type of router I was using, followed by the ear-splittingly loud American woman (don't get me wrong, I love american accents, as long as they are below 100 dB) who asked what type of tech support I needed, and finally the strongest Indian accent fathomable, who could only tell me to do what I could read out of the trouble shooting section of the manual. So after 20 min of saying to the guy "Yeah, already done that, still doesn't work" he passed me onto the replacement compartment where they guy hadn't learnt the letter W, "R.O.U...", "No, it's R.O.W...", "OK, so R.O.U.U..." FFS.

Anyway, after that fiasco, I got them to have the new router sent next day delivery, which to give them credit it did arrive next day. I unplugged the old one boxed it up so ship back to them (SHIT... I've still got to do that!) and got the new one all set up, only to find... that the fucking thing wouldn't send out a signal, and would only work wired, not really what I wanted from a WIRELESS router.

So, while rather pissed off, I called Netgear again, and went thought the whole tech support nightmare again, this time responding "It's new out of the box, and I've already done that!" they sent me yet another new one, which I must happily say is sitting in my kitchen, sending out its wi-fi signals of happiness.

All's well that ends well... right?

Solved, Until Next Time

So at exactly 01:01 this morning, the 8001050f error screen failed to show, which means that everything should be back to normal.

Hopefully it won't make the same mistake in 2011. 2012 should be fine, if not, the world'll end soon anyway so no problem.

More PS3 Fail

So, when I bought Heavy Rain SP, they promised me: A premium theme, The Taxidermist DLC and the Heavy Rain soundtrack.

They delivered on 2 out of three (0 out of 3 since the whole 8001050f thing), I was wondering where my soundtrack was when I received this e-mail:

8001050f: Sweeping the PS3 World

Yesterday (and continuing on to today) PS3s all over the planet where showing up the error code; 8001050f. Unable to sign in and PSN content corrupted, many people have been looking to Sony for an answer, their response, we haven't a clue. Speculation is that the PS3 was coded incorrectly and thinks today is the 29th Feb, thus causing server desynchronization.

Sony say they are working on a solution, and they ask that you leave your consoles alone for today, If you feel that is beyond you, you have to limit your gaming to games that DO NOT have trophies, such as Modern Warfare 1, Assassin's Creed 1 etc.

So if there is an old game that you stopped playing, now is the perfect excuse to go back and finish it.

Dragon Age: Origins

I'm currently a level 10 Dalish Elf Warrior, having just saved the mages of the Circle of Magi, I'm about to make my way to the Dwarven Underground to enlist their help.

And thats all I'm gonna say about that, otherwise I may end up in oversize glasses and develop a fondness for suspenders.

Not really that impressed by this to tell you the truth. It really can't hold a candle to its namesake. But I've come to expect that from movie games. The only reason I bought it was because it runs a different storyline to the one from the film, and generally those types of games are slightly better. Which in comparison to other movie games, Avatar is a lot better. One interesting point of the game comes very close to the beginning, where you are given the choice to side with the Na'vi and fend off the human invaders (which is what I chose), or decide not to turn against your own kind and advance the invasion of Pandora.

Borderlands

Speaking of Pandora, set on the exact same moon, is Borderlands, but you wouldn't know it by looking, a baron wasteland desert. Teeming with creatures that would kill you as much as look at you... so not that different I guess.

Anyway, I reckon I'm half way though the game, I'm currently a level 27 Hunter (with 50 being the highest). I've played online a bit but the amount of times other players decide they want to duel instead of play the story annoys me quite a bit.

Though I believe I have acquired myself a nice collection of guns, my favorites being Whitting Elephant Gun, that can kill most enemies of equal levels with one head-shot. And the Burning Sniper, which causes one hellacious explosion roasting those psycho midgets alive.

Modern Warfare 2

As much as I know that I suck at this game, I still play it mostly because it's the game that my mates over in the states all play, so I play just to join them. The game is fun, but to be honest the most fun I have playing this is just when I'm talking to my guys.

Guess I should tell you my level...sigh... I'm level 18 still no prestige... I DON'T PLAY OFTEN OK?

New Brent Weeks Trilogy

As surprising as it seems, I can actually read! Gasps all round.

Anyway one of my favourite set of books was the Night Angel Trilogy by Brent Weeks. The books told the story of Kayler Stern, a street rat turned legendary assassin (well I use the term assassin, but in the book they say 'assassins have targets, we wetboys have deaders.').

Now due for release in November, comes the first in a new, but still loosely linked to the originals, trilogy. Starting with The Black Prism.

Seemingly following in Assassins Creeds footsteps, the new stories are rumored to be set in 14th century Italy. Though I highly doubt this, as the Night Angel was set in a completely made up world.

Anyway, if the first books are something to go by, this new series will definitely give other books a run for their money.

P.S. as much as I love the books. If they get turned into films, I may lose all faith in authors.

Yet Another Heavy Rain Post

Ok, so I'll admit. I really should have called my blog "20something heavy rain fanatic" but I was such a huge fan of Fahrenheit. And if you've read as much about the game as I have you'd be excited to.

Anyway the point of this post is to inform you that quantic have announced DLC content for HR. Details are scarce but what I've heard is that the DLCs are prequels to HR, they are giving you some background information about the main characters. David Cage even went as far as saying (in French) that it's highly likely that you will get to play as the origami killer him/herself.

There is a video to accompany this post, but unfortunatly it is in French and there are no subtitles. So I thought it would be a waste of bandwidth, so just enjoy the LTA heavy rain trailer in my previous post.

The Holiday

Just spent the last week in the good ol' USA. Boston MA to be precise.

And I've gotta say, it was hard work. First the flight was canceled due to "inclement" weather, it snowed (a bit) the night before, and then it started raining. Heathrow has to buy a snow plough or two, cause this is stupid.

Anyway after Virgin canceled the flight, they told us they can put us on an American Airlines flight later in the day, we really wanted to get out there so, what the hell, we took the flight, and then, four hours later than planned, me and my Dad were of to our next problem.

On arrival we got into a taxi, and made our way to the Royal Sonesta Hotel in Cambridge, where, because of Virgin canceling our flight, they had canceled our reservation at the hotel. This is at PM local time but it feels to us like it is two in the morning. So the person behind the check in desk, calls up Virgin to see what's what but, of course, the help line's closed for the evening. At which point they tell us that even though all our paperwork says that we are to have a nice comfy room for the night, our names aren't down as having one. But its all sorted when Dad pays for the room for the night when promised that Virgin will sort it all out and pay Dad back. Which to be fair, they did.

Anyway, that was the end of the getting there fiasco, then came the good times... walking around Boston, seeing the sights and hanging with my mates.

All to soon came the time for us to leave, but having not been able to see one particular friend, I decided, "You know, if i go see her at 2:45 I can hang for two hours, catch the T and be at the airport with plenty of time to spare". But best laid plans and all. After two hours, I said my goodbyes and got on the T only for it to stop at a station for a stupidly long time for some completely unknown reason. Then, maybe just to piss everyone off, someone decided that the shuttle bus to the airport, needed a freaking MOT test at the bus stop, with us inside it. Well after everything (my plan gave us at least 45 min to check in,) we arrived at the check in desk with 30 seconds to spare before check in for our flight closed.

And that was my holiday in summary. I know I've explained all the bad part to some sad level, but that is the stuff I can write about, I could not begin to describe to you about how happy I am when I see my friends or how great it is to take a walking tour of Boston with my father.

Guys if you are reading this, know I'm grateful to you all and, thanks for everything.

Thats 104 games completed 100%, I don't think I've even played 104 games... actually I have, but I've only completed 20 @ 100%, only 1 @ 3rd gen though. It was Bully for Wii.

Game for Good: Making Charity Work Fun

Last weekend saw the first ever Game For Good, charity event. Game For Good was in aid of the charity War Child, that helps children in wartorn countrys such as Iraq, whether they are orphaned by fighting, or if they have been forced into being soldiers themselves.

Activision and Game set the challenge that if 1,000,000 (1 million) gamers played CoD: Modern Warefar 2, they would donate £250,000 to War Child.

Game For Good saw 1,019,088 (19,088 over the target) players shooting it out on XBox Live totting up a total of 3,279,439 gaming hours, thats 365.3 years! With an average play time of around 80 min.

I myself put up about 2 hours. Got killed 85 times and got 23 kills. Yes, I suck.

Anyway, big thanks from Activision, Game and Warchild for your time.

Assassins Creed 2

Wow, I'm late on this one. I recieved the game on the day it was released. And I just started playing, not thinking twice about writing. Anyway, I've finished the main story now, so I've peeled myself off of my chair, let my eyes rest, and now I'm here to tell you about it.

The game is AWESOME. It's defiantly better than AC1, and they set the bar pretty high. The free running is more fluid, though the camera can let you down at points, causing you to sail of of a object in some random direction, letting you get more acquainted with the floor, and falling does more damaged than any sword does. Fighting is a lot more vaired due to the many types of weapons, short sword, long sword, axe etc. They also introduce "special" moves such as throwing sand in you opponents face, these require a small amount of charging time, and will fail if attacked even if you are halfway through actually performing the attack.

AC2 drops you right into action right from the start, with Desmond being broken out of Abstergo by Lucy, once you've escaped your taken to a new hideout where you will find the Animus 2.0. From here on you are the suave Ezio. You'll spend alot more time in the Animus this time round, only coming out twice the whole game.

For the first 20-30 min of the game, you run around the city not knowing of the fate that awaits Ezio. They start you off with basic hand to hand combat and free running, nothing to hard. You aren't even in you assassins cloths yet.
After this portion of the game you begin your journey as an assassin, which opens up the games stores for you, allowing you to purchase dyes for your outfit (I'm currently sporting a red outfit), larger pouches for your supplies, new weapons and new armour, amongst other things.
Speaking of shops, shops need money, therefore you need money, and you can get money in a few ways, completeing jobs, stealing from people, looting bodies, finding chests, and by far the easiest way, gaining income from your town.
Thats right, you own your own town, and using the money you've earned, you upgrage the town, causing more money to come in to spend on better instruments of death.

Great game a must have.

Why Do I Even Bother, Sarge?

So the most anticipated first person shooter of the year, has been out for a week. and I really couldn't care. This is because I SUCK at FPS's, well, I'm OK if it has a story mode, but I never play then on any difficulty higher than easiest. What I am really bad at is online games, I have never been good at them, and due to the fact that everyone is better, I never live long enough to get any better, my average kills per match is around 4, whereas I get killed at least 15 times a match. Also, there is never any "good" sniping spot, which is where I excel, having some out-of-game experience with them.
Anyway, so you may have guessed that I've given this game a miss, and you'd be right. But my brother picked up a copy the other day, so I'd thought I'd give it a go. And to be honest, the story mode is great, much that we've come to expect from the CoD series. It follows 5 years after the events of Modern Warfare 1, with Soap having been promoted to Captain and the Russians have kicked up a fuss about the death of Imran Zakhaev (the Russian Dude with one arm, 'case you forgot). As before, you play as multiple characters throughout the game, fighting as the USA's Rangers and CIA and Britain's SAS 141 squad.
The selection of weapons at you disposal is as always massive, with something for everyone's taste. The environments range from Russian tundra, to the slums of Brazil.
MW2 newest feature is Special Ops, which has 23 short missions for you to complete, ranging from killing waves of enemies, or a racing against the clock on a snowmobile.
And finally, my least favourite bit of the game, the online mode. New maps, new perks, new attachments for your guns, and the cool new "Callsigns" which allow you to display an banner and an icon whenever you kill, get killed or complete an objective. The banners and icons are preset and you unlock then by completing hidden tasks, such as kill someone as they are cooking a grenade.
It is a great game, and I recommend it to everyone, but... if you aren't confident at FPS games, stay away from online mode, you'll just get frustrated.

Fallout 3

Yes I am still playing this one. But I recently bought the Game of the Year edition so I now have the 5 download packs. I have finished the Mothership Zeta pack which was slightly disapointing as it was so linear, a completly different play style compared to the rest of the game. I'm now working through the Point Lookout pack, which is more like the main game with mutliple ways to complete missions.
I would enjoy it a lot more if my PS3 would stop crashing every time I enter a building or use VATS.

inFamous

I've completed the game being as evil as possible, which honestly is the easy option, as being evil comes so naturaly to me... Now I've started again, and this time I'm going to be the good guy, just so I can try out the good powers and collect the hero trophies.

Tales of Symphonia

I know it's a very old game, but it is also a pretty rare game. Which means that I haven't been able to find a copy until recently. It must be at least 5 years old, yet people can still make £80 selling them online ( I was lucky to find someone who didn't realise the value of his game, so I got mine for £20). It's a brilliant game. One of the best Tales games. This nicely tides in with the release (finally) of Tales of Symhonia 2 in Europe, I have a copy ordered yet I'll have to wait a while, because the Government says I have to spend my money on car tax :-(.

Scribblenauts

Not exactly playing this awseome game in the way it was created. I haven't played many of the puzzles, I've really just stayed on the opening screen and messed around on there, seeing who would win between random entities (btw vampires can beat God). I'm also trying to find out the limits of the vocabulary, which so far seems huge.

Lucky Number 7?

Last week saw the release of Windows 7. Microsoft's more polished version of Vista. I appoligise for being cynical, but a shined up piece o'crap is still a piece of crap.

Also what is the point of only selling it to people, surly if you had to suffered through Vista you should get 7 free or at least at a discount. I mean if you went out and bought a sandwich, and it was given to you on moldy bread, you'd want a replacement, or new slices of bread.

Anyway... 7 offers a better interface, promises faster loading/start up times, and more sidebar gadgets than you could shake your mouse at.

Personally I'm going to stick with my XP. But looking at the stats for this website I can see some of you have 7. So my question to you is... What do you think of 7? Am I completly wrong about it, or I'm I right in sayimg that it is Vista with a spit shine?

Marvel Ultimate Alliance 2

There is only 1 word to describe this game and its the word "disappointing", the original was great and unique at the time but this sequal has turned it stale and unlovable unlike the first game, the amount of costumes is a joke because in the first game you got 4 different costumes for each character and this one you get 2 thats it no choice just 2 which have been used the Civil War and the Secret War stories in the Marvel Universe, and as for the story? its short its abit confusing and the sound is unbarable as everyone sounds like they have been recorded with a cheap Fisher Price microphone

This game is simply a slap in the face for anyone like I really loved the original and the cheapness certainly shows.
This is should have been DLC then it wouldnt have been so poor for the £45! (yes i paid 45 bloody quid for this pile of shit) which is RRP which again is another slap in the face for Marvel fans and Gamers alike

'Bout freaking time!

One of my favourite games of all time is Fallout 3, and seeing it win Game of the Year, its a lot of others as well. The only thing that I didn't like about the game was that it was on PC and XBox, but this was because of the exclusive DLC (Blech) that Microsoft wouldn't share.

Now just after the final DLC Mothership Zeta was released, Broken Steel has been released on PSN, for the price of £7.99 or $9.99 (us Brits are getting ripped!).

Fallout 3 DLC will continue next week (October 1st), with the release of Operation: Anchorage & The Pitt. The week after (October 8th), Point Lookout & Mothership Zetawill be available.

The Beatles: Rock Band

I recently bought this game to keep my mum and sister quiet over the winter months until the inevitable splurge of casual games come out for the Wii around christmas time which handle like boat used to tackle aboriginals in the old black and white films and thought id have a go...and realised what a game that has been created.

The graphics are awesome, the sheer amount of songs (45 to be exact and more to come via XBL and PSN including their famous album Abbey Road) that you actually recognize and realise that they were right, they were the greatest band to ever live and probably ever will and this comes alive within the story mode which you start off at the beginning of the band leading up to their last gig 10 years later.

This game is truely amazing, if you own Guitar Hero World Tour or Rock Band this is worth shelling out £40 for (or a tenner if you were lucky enough to preorder the game from Gamestation or Game in Liverpool and go to the Cavern Club for the launch) and if you dont own either I urge you to go out and buy the band bundle (1 guitar, drums and a microphone) and the game as this is undoubtedly the best Rock Band or Guitar Hero game that has ever been made.

Achievement Unlocked

Since Xbox Live launched, the craze of unlocking achievements has really rocketed, from completing the tutorial levels, to finishing the game on hardest difficulty without dieing and never using the X Button.

Thanks to achievements there is now a record of your gaming abilities other than high score tables, cause anyone can get a high score.

Now it seems to have come to a point where you have to produce the achievement to prove that you have done anything in a game, which has raised the question in some people (me NOT included), "Should real life have achievements to prove what we've done today?" Well for these people there is an answer, for the iPod/iPhone is Booyah Society, A free app which allows you to create your own life achievements and post them into the community, also with twitter and facebook connectivity, you can reach out to even more people and tell them you got the 'Watered the Plants' Achievement.

The way it works is you right a short statement of 140 characters or less, and choose a category for your achievement, or (apparently, haven't found it yet) select from a list with others have posted.

There are some pretty funny suits on there, one of the most recent is that this one guy is sueing Sony for $55000 because they closed his PlayStaion Network account for trolling on the game Resistance: Fall Of Man.

The plantif is claiming that this is denieing his right to free speech (1st Ammendment), also being an agoraphobic, amongst other things, PSN is his only way to socialise (I guess this guy never heard of chatrooms, that or he's been banned from the internet.

Solitaire: For Now... Forever

For all computer equipment I have sitting on my room, for all the programming I do, and for the way I talk about technology, you would think that I'd be a major gamer. You would expect me to be playing World of Warcraft, Grand Theft Auto, and Halo into the wee hours of the morning. And while I'm occasionally up until those wee hours, I'm not playing video games - I'm usually programming. In fact, I really don't play video games much any more. On the occasion that I do, it's usually Halo 3 or Call of Duty 4. Most times, though, I play Solitaire.

Solitaire?! I can hear you screaming it right now in disgust.

Solitaire is my drug of choice. However, unlike real video games which I might play when I get bored, I use Solitaire as a purposeful distraction; a break from the previous 20 minutes of hard-core coding I just completed, a way to clear my mind.

It's not that I hate playing video games, because I don't! Promise. It's just that I don't have the attention span to sit for hours playing video games. Typically, I can't play a video game for more than 30 or 45 minutes before getting bored. Then I have to go do something else. But with Solitaire, that's okay. A game lasts, what, maybe 10 minutes, maximum...if it's really long? Perfect. I can play my game and then go back to my work, no problem.

Solitaire is also universal, and comes with every major operating system today...except Apple's OS X. There's also countless versions you can download online for free...or just play online without having to download anything. And what if the power goes out? No problem, just grab a deck of cards and begrudgingly play an old fashioned version.

Point being though, I can be at work, or at home, or at a friends house, or on my laptop, or my other laptop, and they all have Solitaire! Sitting right there, waiting for me to take a break and play a round or two. It's quick, it's easy. There are no complicated rules and you don't have to worry about cheaters.

And that, friends, is why I play Solitaire.

Beta Testing Opportunity

Ever wanted to be a games tester? Well S2 Games are having an closed beta test of their newest game, Heroes Of Newerth, and the only way to take part is to obtain a Beta Key, sadly I don't have any to give myself, 1 per IP address, but if you have a facebook account, you can become a fan of HoN and when they recieve 30,000 fans, they will send a link to all fans so they can acquire a Beta Key, but you have to be quick as the link they will send you will only be active for 36 hours.

Due to the terms of the beta, I cannot release any details of the game or upload any screen shots/video. The only way to learn about this game is the try the beta, or wait till testing is over.

And just to cover myself, a message from S2 Games about information you can pass on about HoN:

"All participants in the HoN beta test now have express permission from S2 Games to communicate and discuss Heroes of Newerth publicly. OK, now I know there aren't any game designer following me around recording what I say, but there have been a few times, where I said something and then a game or sequel to a game, had what I said in it:

Smackdown vs Raw is a good example of this, I say in this order "They should have a list of regular names for the anouncer to call out", "You should be able to create and entrance" and "You should be able to create a move" all have happened in the following game to me making the statement.

Rockband: as I mentioned in a previous post, I said to a friend, "They should make a guitar hero game for a whole band"

Bully/Canis Carmen Edit: Me and a friend where going to design a game about a kid that goes to school and basically causes trouble.

Lego... : After seeing several Star Wars scenes re-enacted in Lego, you can guess the rest.

And the list goes on.

Gaming Update

GhostBusters:

I finished the game a few days ago. Lot of fun, not really much in the way of catching ghosts, it starts off strong, but they get fewer and further between as the game progresses, and you are mostly faced with minions that are easily dispatched with a quick blast of your proton stream.

RockBand:

I finally got this game, I've been a fan of the Guitar Hero games since the moment I was introduced to them. Sometime between GH 2 and 3 I said to a friend of mine, "You know what'll be great? If they did this for a whole band" and sure enough, about 3 months later, RB was announced. When it first came out it was £150 for the box set, drums guitar the lot, bit much for when I was only earning £140 a month.

So when I was at Cex trading in some games, I found that they had the drums and the game for £50, and I had just gotten a £113 voucher so, what-the-hey, I bought it, and when I got it home, I found 2 things: Its a pretty big set up, and i have awful pedal control.

Still real fun game.

Other News:

Recently I posted about Golden Sun 3 in which I said that the character where descendants, I got this info from a reputable gaming website, which one I have forgotten, but I recently bought an Official Nintendo Magazine and it said that the characters where Isaac and the group. Confusion sets in.

Just a life & game update

Hey reader, just thought I'd tell how my life and gaming life are doing, cause at the beginning I said I'd talk about my experiences, And I haven't really done much of that, so here goes...

Team Fortress 2:

I was given a new laptop by my boss cause he thought it was broken, it was kinda, but for £30 at PC world, I got it all nice and fixed, which I then found it to work even better than my previous laptop. So I almost immediately got myself TF2, took me 3 days from when I purchased it to when I could play it, the laptop is great, but my Internet is still crap.

So once I got started, I found one thing, this game is a little difficult, If you haven't got the unlocked weapons, cause they just make the good players even better. At that point I found myself in an achievement server, this is where there are around 16 inanimate opponents which will stand there while you slaughter then, which make getting achievements, and by that unlockable weapons, much easier, after half an hour of play, I went from 4 achievements to 61, still a ways to go, but its a good start. I now have a few of the unlockable weapons, but due to the server not being a Steam server, I cannot use my unlocked weapons, which means eventually, I will have to start fighting "real" people.

I'm still the only person I know with Steam, so friend achievments will have to wait.

Anyway, great game, ThePhyonix is my Steam ID, if you'd like to take me on (and probably win)

Fallout 3:

I've completed this game once, by doing the run through route, I'm now trying to do it twice more, once being good and doing all the missions that help people, and one where I'm very evil, where I kill them all and steal their shoes.

If you do play Fallout 3, may I recommend that you talk to Mr Burke in Megaton, and do as he requestes, even better is if you do it at night.

I'm still waiting on the DLC to be released which should be either later this month or early next month.

Audiosurf:

Love this game, another one from Steam, music game where the number of levels is only limited by the size of your library.

Which at the moment consists of 1 Dragonforce song, not Through The Fire And The Flame I may add, and the Dark Horse album. Like I said earlier, new laptop, got other stuff to get off my old laptop, before I do music, I do have some priorities.

The Exception To Prove The Rule

The Rule: Video Games Based On Movies/TV Shows Suck.

Trust me on this one, I've seen dozens of great movies, and I've seen almost all of them turned into games that stink worse than my co-workers farts. No matter how great the source material is, they always seem to do a quater assed job of it.

They make these games on a very small budget as to maximise their income. People will flock to game stores to get these games just because they enjoyed the movie.

And they will keep producing these crappy games so long as you buy them, so I beg of you, stop flooding the Top 10 charts with games that REALLY do not belong there.

OK, rant over.

Now, as with any rule, there are exceptions, In this case I'd like to talk about GhostBusters: The Game, now this... this... is how movie games should be made, great gameplay, the proper voice actors, and not some cheap sound alike and no quotes from the movie on loop, that drives me loopy that last one.

Set after the events of GhostBusters 2, you play Nameless Rookie, hired as the teams Expertiment Equipment Tester, cause the rest are to valuable to the team to try it themselves.

Soon after your induction, ghosts start to appear all over New York, some of them bringing back some bad memories for the GBs. And using your experimental backpack, you and the GBs do what they do best, capture the ghosts and 'accidentally' cause damage along the way.

The capture system, can be a bit confusing at the start, using 3 of the shoulder buttons a the same time to perform a successfully capture, but after about 5-10 ghosts, you'll get the hang of it.

I haven't played much of the game yet, so far I've only clocked up about 2 hours, but from what has happened so far, the rest of the game will be amazing.

Who ya gonna call... Work, and tell them your sick.

NB. Ive only played the PS3 version, so I'm not sure how the Wii version matches up, with its different graphics and gameplay, If you have played it, leave it in the comments or submit a video for 20something TV.

E3:8 - Golden Sun DS

All I can say is... OMG FINALLY!

One of the GBA's greatest rpgs is finally back for a third outing. Graphics are at DS standard, not much to see about game play.

The playable characters are the direct descendants of the original Golden Sun games.

Making a return are the Elemental Djinns, and with them, the Summons.

E3:7 - New Super Mario Bros Wii

Mr Nintendo is back.

Level design is a good as you'd expect from a Mario game. With more power ups than ever before, including (as show in the video) Helecopter Jumpsuit, for a boost when jumping, and the Penguin Suit, for throwing balls of ice that freeze enemies one the spot, even in mid-air, which can then be used as platforms.

Up to four players can team up, (whether its only online or if you can get four people at home to play, in not sure), and play though the main game. Which, and correct me if im wrong, will be the first console mario game where you can do this .

E3:4 - Jak and Daxter: The Lost Frontier

The Lost Frontier is looking good, from what I can see, It's going leaving the racing genre behind and getting back to its roots... well, its Jak 2 routes anyway, and thats great. Though, I am still upset that its on PSP and PS2 instead of PS3, but I guess there is still hope.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but that doesn't sound like Mike Erwin's Jak.

BTW, this is the first I've seen of the new PSP, and to be honest, I think the original looks better.

E3:2 - Ratchet & Clank Future: A Crack In Time

I really like the R&C series, but for some reason, I haven't been following the developement of the new game.

As per the usual for Ratchet and Clank games, the levels are looking vibrant and colourful, the weapons are looking hilarious (Sonic Eruptor FTW), and the enimies are looking big.

Hopefully, this game is going to come in a box, cause I really don't want to wait 8 hours for it to download, like Quest for Booty did.

E3:1 - Assassins Creed 2

Here it is, the E3 demo for Assassins Creed 2.

I don't know if flying will be something you can do outside of missions, or if they only appear when there is a job to do. I'm impressed with the fact you can steal weapons from the people you are fighting, (I believe the only other game that happens in is Shadow of Rome on the PS2, good game, you should try it), also now the guards check your hiding spots, its not as easy to evade when you are being chased, but with the, what I'm calling, Kill-From-Hiding (great name, I know), that kinda negates it.

By the way, in not the only one who thought "Double-Kill!" when he knife the guards right?

I've pre-ordered my copy from play.com, and now I have to play the waiting game, or Fallout 3 until 13/11/09.

Transfigirous Legosis

Travelers Tales are at it again with the Lego franchise, this time they are turning Harry Potter and Co into the iconic blocks.

Lego Harry Potter will be split into 2 games the first featuring years 1 to 4 and the second featuring 5 to 7.

Heavy Rain Update

At long last there has been an update for Heavy Rain! This video from 1up.com (viewable here as well as right here)

I know it's more of an interview than an update, but this actually shows gameplay, and that is what I have been waiting almost a year for.

So, gameplay-wise it looks a much more advance versions of Fahrenheit's, but with the X,O,Square, Triangle buttons coming into play. Seems you have to keep a look out for them aswell not just look at the top of the screen and wait for them to appear.

Level design looks amazing, but really thats not much of a plus seeing as this is 3rd gen and is expected from most games now.

Still no talk of a release date, and David is still keeping his mouth wire shut about the story, (BTW does he sound less and less 'French' each time he does something like this?)

Want this game so much.

Fallout PS3

Microsoft's iron grip on DLC exclusivity is slowly being wedged open it seems, with the news of Fallout 3's Operation: Anchorage being release for the PS3 in early June. The other 2 DLC packs, The Pitt and Broken Steel, will then be released in 4 to 6 week intervals.

Not only is that good news, even better is that there are 2 NEW DLC packs in the works for Fallout 3; Point Lookout and Mothership Zeta. No idea what Point Lookout is about, but I can guess that Mothership Zeta is about and alien invasion, given that the scout ship you find is called "Scout Ship Zeta", BTW I love the Alien Blaster, kills most Super Mutants in one shot.

Hopefully this example of 'sharing the love' will be noticed by Rockstar and Valve and any other company that sold its soul to Microsoft, if not, maybe seeing the money roll in from us PS3 owners will get them to give us The Lost and The Damned, and the Team Fortress 2 DLC.

N.B. I'm not biased against Microsoft, but getting a company to make DLC for its versions only, just doesn't seem right.

Meet The Spy

Decided to take a break from my revision, and this showed up on my youTube subscriptions.

Valve have released a new "Meet The..." video. But being the Spy, no-one is sure who the spy is. Try and guess who it is before it is revealed.

I really like Team Fortress 2, but sadly I only have the PS3 Orange Box version, which apparently will NEVER recieve the updates that the PC version get. I only got Orange Box because I didn't think my laptop could cope with it, but I recently got a copy of Half Life 2: Death Match and Garry's Mod off Steam, and they work quite well, so after the exams, (and when I'm in a place where the download speed is faster than 56Kb/s) I might get myself a copy.

Anyway, back to revision, I'll start again properly at the end of the week, and remember...

Spy Checking, It could save lives, and end theirs!

Fahrenheit, How Could You Miss It?

In a past post, Prepare For A Downpour, I spoke about my favourite game of all time, Fahrenhiet, and how it seemed to go amiss. I'd like to take some time to talk to you about this game.

Fahrenheit (or 'Indigo Prophecy' in the states) is set in present day New York City, in the middle of a cold snap. The opening scene shows a guy, Lucas Kane the games protaganist, sitting in a diner's bathroom stall, holding a knife, another person is in the bathroom, washing his hands. Lucas comes out of the stall and in a zombie like fashion, walks up to the victim and stabs him. Lucas then snaps out of his trance and realises what he has done. From there you have control of Lucas and the game starts. Using the games unique control system you clean up the crime scene and leave.

You play Fahrenhiet by moving Lucas (or the games other 3 characters) with the left stick and interact with object with the right stick. During the games many action sequences, you will play using one of three methods;

Two circles appear on screen representing the analogue sticks, you move the sticks in the direction indicated by the circles.
A bar will appear at the bottom of the screen, and you have to max it, by rapidly pressing R1 and L1.
A bar will appear at the bottom and a slider will start in the middle, you have to try and keep it there by pressing R1 and L1 to shift it right or left.

Fahrenhiet has Sims style mentality metre which measures the character's state of mind, and it is affected by you perfoming different actions, such as getting a drink will increase your mental stability, wereas hearing or seeing something bad will lower it.

The game is practically one long cut scene where you have some say in what happens, though you are raely left just watching the screen.

I recommend Fahrenheit to everyone, and when I do find another person who played it, they love it too.

N.B. I want to avoid using fan videos in 20something gamer, but this one was too good to not use.

The Lost (But Hopefully Not The Final) Frontier

I'm a huge fan of the Jak and Daxter series, they are great fun to place amzing visuals, and they have an exciting story. Its been 3/4 years since Jak's last outing in Jak X: Combat Racing, and now they are back in Jak and Daxter: The Lost Frontier. Original rumours back in 2006 where that this game was to be on the PS3, but as of April 1st 2009 (and Sony swear it's no joke)it is now known that Jak is joining Daxter on his first ever PSP adventure.

The Lost frontier is also going the way of R&C:Size matters and GTA: Liberty City Stories, by having the game released for the PS2 at the same time. Hopefully it'll be available for download off PSN, 'cause I'm stuck with the 40GB PS3.

Nothing yet is known about the games storyline, and the released screen shots don't do much to tell you about the game.

TLF is being developed by High Impact Games, the guys behind R&C's PSP games, and if those are to go by, Jak's PSP debut is gonna be great.

But to be really honest with you, I'm kinda bummed that its not for PS3. Come on Naughty Dog, please? I want to see Haven City in all of its 1080 DPI glory.

The Ripoff Unleashed

So, I decided to get the expansion for The Force Unleashed, £7.99 off Playstation Network. Which gives you 3 or 4 extra costumes and 1 level you can finish in 5 min! That is not worth 8 quid.

I mean, Ratchet: Quest for Booty was only a few quid more, and it takes a good few hours to complete.

The level is fun to play I will give it that much, but when you finish it, you really do feel; That wasn't worth it.

So, I guess I'll give you an overview of the level:
You are at the ruins of the Jedi Temple in hopes of finding any information about your father. When you get there you find the temple is overrun with Imperial troopers. You make your way into the temple where you find what your looking for but the way is blocked. So you clear it then make your way to find out about your past and maybe even your future.

You start this level with most of your stats full, and with all the saber crystals unlocked.

Like I said, it's fun, but not really worth it.

How Many Animal Crossings Must A Man Walk Down?

I recently got Animal Crossing: City Folk (Lets Go To The City) for the Wii, I played it for a week and got bored. It's a good game, a great game in fact, but I've done it all before on the DS.

Animal Crossing seems to be a series where you really only ever need to get one version of it. Each game has its differences, but at its core, its the same game:

New in town, get a mortgage, pay it off buy selling junk to the guy you owe money to, get a bigger house, make your house presentable, and make your town look nice.

And its been the same each time.

While I've been writing this, an advert for Pokemon Platinum just played on the TV, which made me think, the Pokemon series is just as repetitive as Animal Crossing, yet I find them a lot more interesting. What is the difference in their formulas that makes me catch Pokemon for hours, but makes me leave Animal Crossing after I've caught a few fish?

Prepare for a Downpour

One of my favourite games of all time has always been Quantic Dream's, Fahrenheit. It has its own unique style of play which I believe is in no other game, the story has more twists and turns than a roller coaster, and the graphics weren't bad either. Also due to its lack in popularity, the anti-video game patrol completely missed it, rated 15 with 2 sex scenes, Mass Effect haters, eat your heart out.

Many years have passed and I still LOVE that game, about half a year ago, Quantic Dream revealed Heavy Rain, and from what I have seen of it, it is going to be amazing, well... hopefully, seeing as what was shown in both of the Heavy Rain videos out there have been revealed as not going to be in the game, as to not spoil any of it, which is nice of them.

Heavy Rain has an updated and more advance control system than Fahrenheit, a more in-depth story and more paths to follow, rumour is that even killing your character is a path choice.

Not much at all is known of the games story, but if Fah' is anything to go by, it'll be awesome.

Due to be out later this year.

Anyone who played the first Assassins Creed will know its one of the best games out there. Amazing graphics, brilliant game play (though it was kinda repetitive) and a really good story.

So here is the teaser trailer for Assassins Creed 2:

From what it shows I'd take a guess at saying it's going to be based in 15-16th century Italy, mainly because of the famous Leonardo Da Vinci painting at the end.

Nothing more to say about this one, except if its anything like the last game, its gonna be a winner.

UPDATE: Check out www.assassinscreed.com to see some awsome basic hologram messages (printer and webcam required), and on the website there is some scribbles, but in reverse, it says G(something)g Information 4/16/09, so check back then for an update.

Well, first entry in any blog for me, so I guess an introduction is at order. I'm Phyonix (not my real name of course, but I'd like to keep my privacy). I'm currently 20 years old and I live in London, England. I'm a Computer Science Student, currently in my second year. Also, obviously and most important to this blog, I'm a video gamer, I wouldn't call myself an expert gamer, I'm good at some types of games whereas I suck at others, but I am a gamer none the less.

This blog, as the name suggests, is about video games, my experiences, achievements, and any news that I feel to be pretty important.
